I hear my colleagues ask over and over for time to simply teach. Taking time to assess young children is important but they need us. I feel like I’m on “data overload” most of the time. I am required to reassess before I’ve had adequate time to effectively teach the concept. We need to work smarter...not harder. Let’s remember that behind every piece of data is a human being. Behind each human being is a unique set of circumstances and all children are going to learn at different rates. Being “data driven” has a place in the planning of instruction but shouldn’t we invest more quality time with our young people?
